Smooth Fox Terrier
A Well-Balanced Game Little Dog
The Smooth Fox Terrier breed is an old terrier breed
from England. For nearly a century they were shown in the
US as one breed, two varieties, the Smooth and the Wire. In
1984, the American Kennel Club, AKC approved separate
standards for both which became effective in June 1985.
They are now considered two separate breeds.
Always ready for fun and frolic, this gay, lively, active
dog has been a favorite house pet for many decades. It is
equally at home in the country or in the big city. Its very
dark circular eyes are full of fire and vitality and reveal lots
of intelligence. Its coat is smooth and flat, but hard, dense
and abundant, and well covered including its belly. The coat
color should be predominantly white. A moderate amount of
stripping is required to maintain the coat. For exercise,
it enjoys a good daily walk. A small dog breed, this bright
terrier dog is loaded with affection, very playful, and
quite easy to train. A Smooth Fox Terrier puppy
is a good choice for a family addition.
