We here in the Canadian dog fancy are facing a monumental challenge.
The CVMA has decreed that Docking, Cropping and Dew Claw removal will be
banned. They have succeeded in the eastern provinces,
now Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia VMA's will be asked to put this on their
agendas for their upcoming Fall meetings.
The CVMA has made it clear
to the CKC and breeders alike that they will NOT allow anyone other than themselves to discuss this topic at these meetings.
Essentially this is about choice. The Veterinarian's have a choice to-day to continue (or not) to dock, crop and remove dew claws
and my choice (or not) to have these procedures done.
The CVMA wants to remove that choice and as always all the usual AR rhetoric surrounds the message.
But many in the Canadian dog fancy have been working to get the "word" out.
One such action is a petition. We are hoping for a 1000 signatures.
If you could take a moment and sign the petition and then pass it along to some of your "dog" friends
it would be much appreciated.
